David learned industry-standard video making during his Masters studies. He was introduced to essential skills through a Video News Production class and advanced under the guidance of instructor Matt Walsh, formerly of CNN. He started with basic three-shot sequences and learned techniques which enabled him to plan, script, shoot, edit and present reporter packages, as well as create subtitle graphics and text slates, using a Panasonic Lumix GH4 DSLR and the Adobe suite.

Jack Wong interview

David explored the dangers of race-riding through an interview with Hong Kong apprentice jockey Jack Wong who talked about his recovery from two separate race falls. David planned, filmed and edited the piece.

First Reporter Package

David’s first solo reporter package was a piece about how the rise in school fees at Hong Kong’s English Schools Foundation was affecting some of the city’s English-speaking lower middle class families. He planned, shot, edited and voiced the entire package.

Impromptu social media shoot

This short video was impromptu and was shot for social media to give a flavour of race night at Happy Valley, Hong Kong. David filmed and edited the piece.

Early Video Production

This simple video sequence was a Masters programme assignment. It was shot in Happy Valley, on Wong Nai Chung Road, and is one of David’s first attempts at video shooting and editing.
